DAY 45. July 12th. SOMEWHERE AFTER REQUESENS TO VILAMINISCLE

Sleepy morning but rewarded by our first sight of the sea. First time I felt that it was all about to end so took silly videos of basically walking: my feet, Sandy and Colin’s rears, cows on the path. Horrible, horrible section of road under the sun and with the inevitable maniac drivers who only give you enough room if you hold your sticks out enough to possibly scratch their precious vehicles. Interesting difference here between Prames book and Cicerone in which the latter quite rightly says to avoid going down to a little chapel whose name I can’t remember now (after coming off the road). Down to Sant Quirze de Colera which is an old monastery with lots of proud Generalitat, or whoever, signs announcing investments in its renovation to be completed shortly – too shortly to be possible. Enter the welcome restaurant to be treated like unintelligent forms of life by a worked-up waitress but we forgive her and eat the good but standard fare of grilled meat and chips. I have to say that their All i Oli was VERY GOOD however and the wine was nice. Attempt to have a siesta in the river bed whilst El Fuerte (Colin) yet again beats us on energy and patience levels and visits what is permissible of the monastery. Not such a good place to camp so roll on down the road not knowing where we will end up.
Sandy, who we now call “Ms Meteorology” insists that the black clouds will not bring us neither rain nor storms so we soldier on through the village of Vilaminiscle. Upon leaving we see that the terrain doesn’t favour so decide to ask in the Casa de Colonies if they will let us camp, which they don’t in case we are child-molesters. The woman is very sweet and recommends going all the way back to the swimming pool at the other end of the village where they will let us camp and shower.
Ms Metereology doesn’t get it right and soon after getting to the pool one of the most dramatic storms that I have ever seen hits. Fortunately it abates before they chuck us out to camp on the adjacent football field. We are charged €2 each for cold showers whilst we avoid being chucked out…….why thank-you Mr Alcalde de Vilaminiscle!
A damp and windy night. Very cold and windy in the morning. Tired and mixed feelings about the end.
